Outlook Traveller honoured and showcased the very best of travel and hospitality experiences in India and overseas at the Outlook Traveller Awards 2015, which took place on Friday, March 27 at the Dusit Devarana in New Delhi. The awards concluded the eighth successive year of the Outlook Traveller Readers’ Survey, in which over 18,000 respondents voted for their travel preferences through The results were then revalidated by an eminent jury panel (Mr. Aman Nath , Historian , hotelier, world traveler , Mr. Gustasp and Mrs. Jeroo Irani, Veteran travel writers, Ms. Gauri Jayaram, Founder , The Active Holiday Company, and Ms. Ahtushi ( Travel photographer and adventurist with a fondness for the Himalaya) . The awards are an authoritative benchmark of consumer preferences in the areas of travel and tourism across 27 categories, including hotels, airlines and holiday destinations. In addition there were four special jury categories in which the jury members cast their preferences.

The special jury category of the Indian Hotel Debut of the year went fittingly to the ITC Grand Bharat, Manesar. In the Favourite European destination category Spain came out as a clear winner while Norway took top honours in the Upcoming International Destination category. Vaishno Devi continued to tower over other pilgrimages as India’s Top Spiritual Destination while Maldives got the vote for the Most Preferred Asian Tourism Destination (followed by Thailand). MakeMyTrip came out with flying colours as the Most Preferred Travel Portal in the country.

New categories introduced this year included Upcoming International Regional Tourism Destination (California), Favourite Homestay (Red Hill Nature Resort, Ooty), Best Niche Tour Operator (Wow Club) and Best Inbound Tour Operator (Le Passage to India). This year’s award function was presided over by chief guest, Secretary (Ministry of Tourism), Dr. Lalit K Panwar while the audience was treated to insightful talks by prominent wildlife photographer—Ms .Belinda Wright; Emmy-award winning filmmaker and wildlife conservationist—Ms Shama Pawar; and Co-founder and Chairman , Neemrana Hotels, Mr.Aman Nath.

The function also featured an art show by artists of Royal descent, curated by Royal Fables.

Readers voted to choose the ‘best of the best’ in each category in an online poll on Categories included the popular Hill Destinations, Beach Destinations, Adventure Tourism Destinations, National Parks, Heritage Sites and Spiritual Journeys. Readers also voted to choose their favourite Tourism Destinations (in Asia, Europe, and the Rest of the World); the Best Upcoming Tourism Destination worldwide; as well as their preferred choice of Cruises, International Airlines, and Airports. Given the heightened role that intermediaries play in enhancing the travel
experience, readers were also asked to vote on the best Adventure Tourism Operators, best Travel Portals and the best
Outbound Tour Operators. Additionally, with the jurors’ help, Outlook Traveller honoured Ms. Shama Pawar, Kishkinda
Trust, Hampi for Outstanding Contribution in Travel.

The presenting sponsor of the event was FIAT India while Korea came on board as the Country Partner .Other sponsors of the event were Turkey Tourism, Telangana Tourism, Toehold, Star Cruises, Travel & Tours and NDTV Goodtimes.

Outlook Traveller Survey Methodology

The Jury members along with the editorial team shortlisted the nomination across various categories. A structured questionnaire was then created urging the readers to vote their favourite nominee in each category and published on Over 18,000 individual responses over a period of four months were recorded online to arrive at the winners list.
